Homemade Baklava Sheets
Ingredients
- 4 cups plain flour
- 1 egg
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- For rolling out: 1.5 cups wheat starch
Method
- Knead the flour, egg, water, salt and vinegar into a dough that does not stick to your hands.
- Divide into twelve pieces, cover and rest for half an hour.
- Roll each piece out to the size of a plate, dusting with starch.
- Stack the sheets with plenty of starch between them; the starch is what keeps the layers apart.
- Roll five or six sheets together around the pin, thinning them to the width of your tray.
- Separate the sheets one by one and brush off the excess starch.
- Layer them into the tray with melted butter between each one and add your filling.
